Mirth Cottage
Hi!!
I’m beginning the process of finding a property that will allow me to achieve my dream of having chickens of my own! It will take a bit of time to sell my condo and purchase a new place but I want to start my research now so that when I have my land I don’t get overly excited and make newbie blunders in the excitement of the moment.

I’m looking at properties in the southeast (anywhere from southern VA down through GA. Maybe even eastern TN?) Wide open options. I am obviously wanting to make sure I can legally have birdies wherever I eventually land. Heat-savvy birds, of course. Beyond that I’m sooo clueless. I have a list of breeds I adore based on videos, articles, and pictures (Orpington, Maran, Wyandotte, Americauna), but I’m hoping to learn from owners here what really works for you.

Where do I go from here (besides actually getting to my future property?)

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Start by reading lots of articles and threads. Then you can think about planning out your coop and run. When you finally land your new home, you can start building the coop and run and get that done. THEN get chicks or started pullets. Enjoy the journey!

Welcome!!:welcome I like your plan! I am in almost the same situation....I can't have chickens where I am and plan to move to Connecticut (from Oho) in June. There are great people here with depth of knowledge and they are extremely friendly and willing to help. So....bring your questions, pull up a chair and share your dreams.....everyone here will celebrate with you when they come true!!! We are so excited that you joined us!!:wee
