REady to start raising a small clutch of quail.....

I had chickens for 2 years...they quit laying and my health took a downturn...so closed up shop, so to speak....Well,....Now my health is improved and I wanna try my luck at raising some quail for a change.
Should I order chicks, or try to start with eggs?? I have never incubatored any eggs....but would love to try....Where is a good source for Quail eggs or chicks ? I have an 8x8 chicken house and run ready to go...will need to make a few adjustments for the smaller birds,tho.
I also would like input from anyone who has started quail, about the downfalls compared to chickens, or the advantages??

Hello Mary Ann, nice to meet you... I'm Bill. There is a sticky or two at the top of the quail section that is worth the read... You did'nt say what type of quail your think'n. Most folks here raise coturnix. I raise coturnix and Butler Bobs, and a few chukars too. A incubator is gonna be your friend with game birds. It will allow you to get eggs from all over the country. That and hatch'n birds is as addicting as anything I'v ever experienced.... Nuthin like brand new fuzzy butts.... Read the stickies, decide if your want a bator and what kind of quail you want to start with. If you want to start with jumbo coturnix, shoot me a PM and I'll send ya a couple dozen eggs for nuthin to get ya started.... Just be forewarned. This is how the addiction begins!!! Bill

Glad to know your health as improved....I see you're from South West MO...how South West? I live near Tulsa and be willing to give you a start with adult Coturnix....'going through Joplin in about 3 weeks could meet you there...

Your going to enjoy quail...like Fat Daddy said, "they're addicting" and it doesn't help that you just introduced yourself to the biggest group of enablers around!
