Really BIG Burning Question about thingummy bobbies.

O.K so I was just perusing the site, as you do and I came across this advert for peepers/blinkers and pins and things. I have searched the internet, this forum, the kuhl ( I think that's right) website and nothing but pictures of chickens wearing these funky coloured wind shields on their beaks that look really cruel I'm guessing it is something to do with these but why? wherefore?how come?. I don't know if this is in the right section because I wasn't really sure where to put it but can somebody tell me WHAT ON EARTH these thingys are and do please? It is going to bug me all evening.
