So I want to explore lacing genetics in mutt birds. I understand that phenotype is not the same as genotype, so that even though a mixed bird is laced, it won't necessarily breed true. However, if the mutt with lacing is bred back to a purebred laced bird, it will most likely produce laced offspring.
My questions are: What does the lacing phenotype look like when it's only half expressed?
I have seen hatchery quality laced Wyandottes that look just awful in their lacing. I have a few Easter Eggers that I think might have lacing genetics.
Photos 1, 2, and 4 are of the same gold hen. Does her coloration count as lacing? Partial lacing? Photo 3 is a different gold hen who has even more distinct lacing.
Could I breed these girls to a laced rooster (preferably a rooster with silver or gold laced with black) and expect mostly laced offspring?
