If you keep hens and roosters together (in the right proportions), once the hens start laying eggs, how do you know whether they are fertilized or not. Does it even matter if you collect them everyday? Is eating fertilized eggs bad? I know I should know this stuff and I should probably just research it myself but.... you all have such good answers.

look up candling in the search bar on the site.. I found some neat stuff on it.

my brother also did it when he had chickens

There is a GREAT sticky under incubating and hatching eggss from Speckledhen. We eat fertilized eggs ALL THE TIME. Unless you look really, really close you can never tell the difference. My DW had the same concern....over it now!!
