Crowing
2 weeks ago my husband came home with some free shade cloth panels. They are from a nursery, so sturdy and have gromets along 2 sides. We hadn't decided how we were going to use them yet. But...
We have an area along our back fence and behind a shed where many leaves fall. We have been adding leaves from other parts of the yard after raking. My husband usually turns them over occasionally but his wrist is bothering him so he told me to do it. And I did. LOL
I gathered up things from behind the shed and managed to enclose the area off (temporarily) to keep the chickens in. It wasn't pretty but it worked. Grabbed a chair and put the chickens to work. They did such a nice job spreading the pile out.
I mean, Hellooo... chickens love to scratch around in leaves. LOL!
So here is what we did with those shade cloths.
Put nails along the fence, shed and chicken run to hang the shade cloths on using the gromets. This way we can easily take one side down to dump accumulating leaves off of them and quickly put them back up. This is a hawk deterrent . We then fenced it in and used that plastic deer fencing to cover the space between fencing and shade cloth.
Now they have a extra run that will be cooler in the summer. I'll add some pictures in the comments.
