Well we've managed to pretty much finish up the coop, our birds will be going out in a week or 2 so just some finishing touches to put together but came out ok. We've been renting this property out for the last 8 years and just moved back in this spring. Decided we wanted to get some chickens for the first time this year so I started scrounging around for some materials to build a coop/run for them. Only purchase was the red paint and fencing for the aviary. I'm big on re-purposing and finding ways to build things without spending so I just repurposed old boards/supplies from around the yard. Cut and stripped some poles and this is what I came up with. Coop will need a little work to fill a few of the cracks before winter but otherwise we're calling it good. Trying to decide what to use as a substrate in the coop, probably stick with shavings as they're reasonably easy/cheap to find. The fencing on the aviary runs underground about 2' out all around to avoid any digging in by raccoons or foxes.

I'm no pro so I'm sure there's alot of mistakes and things we'll need to change once we're set up and running but pretty happy with how it came out. We may need to build on to it if we feel it's too tight for them, plans are already done incase we do but for now I'm moving on to getting the quail enclosure ready. Wife ordered some turkey chicks this morning so I need to get the quail done so we can start on the turkey.

I love the aviary! Looks beautiful!!

We've since added on, Temporarily housing our silkes, a couple young buff bantam Brahmas (will be moving to coop 1 soon) and a couple random Easter Eggers. Will be the light standard Brahma coop soon as I get coop 3 built for the silkes. Currently housing the coturnix quail in the hutch in front. Planning a multi-level corner build in the V between aviary 1&2 for them when time allows.
