We have a standing structure! And hopefully by next weekend it will be finished!! Because let me tell you... The chicks are trying my patience! 🥴🐣😐
It is an 8x8, made completely of reclaimed lumber. Even the metal roof will be "gently used."
We will have to buy the linoleum that we are putting down on the floor.
But the coop will have cost us only $200 (flooring and paint), and blood, sweat, and cuss words, by the time it's complete.
We were blessed with the ability to salvage lumber and plywood from a building before it was demo'd.
We got this coop and our planter boxes out of it.
Even if we have to refurb it next year, it was a life saver now!!!
I'm SO EXCITED, Y'ALL!!!!

We have Brahmas and BRs. So, I opted to make 2 nesting boxes slightly bigger than the other 2. In the larger ones, there is a removeable divider. This way I can use that area as a brooder or ER if needed.
*I also opted to use my mini solo cups to make a feeder. I know they probably won't last very long. But they are working for now, and I don't have to dig poop out of their crumble constantly.

And now we are working on the run....
I found this strange bird hanging out!
*Used landscape timbers for bottom (rebarred into ground) and corner posts (cemented 2 feet down)
The door will be at the end, so that the run can be expanded next spring to the west.
There will be a tin roof and another water barrel placed, hence the gradual pitch. The second barrel will provide water to the garden which is to the west of the coop.

The hardware cloth went up. We aren't thrilled with it. So, we will be adding something else to the bottom section. It just isn't as "strong" as we were hoping for. It's 19g 1/4" galvanized. There will be support boards running horizontally acrossed the middle of the frame, which I'm hoping for a little more support. We are building a door.

WHY AM I SO EXCITED BY A DOOR???? Well... because this build has taken awhile!! And... secretly... I designed the door to be exactly like the one that was on the feed room in our old barn when I was a kid. A little ohmage to my Pops!! My husband has been an awesome sport about this whole thing... I put it on paper... and he brings it to life!!!!
As one of my favorite YouTuber says... Slowly...Slowly!!!
