As a relative rookie to raising chickens. What medications would you advise a BYC farmer to keep on hand for those just in case parasite and illnesses of chickens. The only thing I have on hand at this time is Food Grade DE. I see stuff like Sulmet, VetRx, Fenbendazole, Ivermectin, Wazine, Valbazen, and a ton of others. If I had to have one or two "key" medicines on hand, what would you recommend?

I'm not sure if I said something wrong, if I placed this in the wrong forum area, or if I just somehow stumped our experts (which I don't believe). If I need to post elsewhere, please let me know. I sure would appreciate some help on this so I'm prepared with the proper treatment for issues related to this category. Thanks in advance, Gerry

I recommend Valbazen and sevin dust. That's all you really need.

Its a great question I would like answered as well. I have some Food grade DE, Organic ACV, Yogurt and Flubenvet. Maybe need something for Treatment of Coccidiosis like Sulmet?

I just read someone recommend Corid / Amprolium for Coccidiosis in their chicks that started pooping blood. It sounds like there are a number of different medications out there that serve the same or similar purpose in various treatments. Kinda confusing. I get a little concerned that I'll get caught with my proverbial "pants down" if my chicks start showing signs of illness like that. I don't think they'll do well with a shot of whiskey and being told to "hang tough"!

#1 - Blue Kote or some other similar type of wound dressing. Preferably one that will change the color of the raw area.

#2 - Some sort of lice and/or worm remedy such as Ivermectin.

#3 - Vaseline or a Vaseline/pine tar blend to rub on wounds once they have dried to discourage picking.

#4 - A sharp hatchet. For most illnesses. Never fails to work.
