Record keeping software?

Any suggestions on a good product?

Searched and searched, but couldn't find a darned thing except very expensive commercial software ($250 or more) and Excel spreadsheets. So I came up with a design and my oh-so-sweet programmer husband is creating it for me. Should be ready in about a month, and will let you track Income, expenses, number of eggs collected per day, and so forth.

If you'd like to test the Beta version when it's available, post a note here. I'm going to subscribe to the topic so I can keep track of whomever is interested.

We haven't decided on a price yet, because there's really nothing like it out on the market. What would you consider paying for such a product?

Interesting idea. We are Linux geeks in my house and use only freeware, so I wouldn't actually spend money on it, but I know lots would. Good luck.

Unfortunately, there isn't much freeware out there that meets my needs or is compatible with whatever my clients are using. Zip and screen capture stuff is about it. And I couldn't find any freeware, shareware, or even reasonably priced commerical software that did what I want to do, which is find out exactly how much I'm netting (if anything) on my egg sales.

OpenOffice is freeware and has similar programs as Microsoft Office (exccel, access, powerpoint, etc.)

Similar yes, exact match, no. When you're doing professional desktop publishing and PowerPoint presentations, you need an exact match. Otherwise, glitches in the formatting or embedded videos/graphics bite you in the... well, you know where!

I've been trying to find something that would help me with flock management. Like a cross between a spreadsheet and a journal.

Do a search for "raizin" at the top of the page (a member here) and then go to his BYC web page. His wife built us an awesome chicken tracker that is just about as comprehensive as you can get. It's in Excel and free.
