I posted recently about a chicken falling over and she’s doing great, it appears to be a vitamin deficiency which would explain what’s truly going on. I brought her back into the coop last night and this morning I have a few hens bullying her. They’re blocking her from going into the attached run, which makes me think she was bullied beforehand to the point of not being able to eat or drink as much.

Anyways, I separated the one bully hen, the other one is molting very badly so didn’t want to pick her up. Bully hen is in the crate in the garage. I’m watching my cameras and the molting hen keeps chasing her around.

They’re all 9 months old

What should I do? I only have one dog crate.

If taking the bully out doesn’t work:
Treat her like a new addition…. See but no touch set up. You can try to section off an area with wire fencing or you can use the dog crate. Set her up with food and water and let the flock get used to her presence Reintroducing a chicken can take a little time. There’s info in the learning section about introducing ‘new’ chickens that may help. Sometimes you still have to take the biggest bully or bullies out of the flock for a few days to let the new bird get settled and bring the bullies a notch down in the pecking order.

The other hens are probably bulling her because they know she is still weak or because you separated her for long enough where the pecking order now has to be reestablished. If you think the the bullied hen is in real danger separate her for a little while longer until she gets stronger. If you are able to watch your hens to can try to hose the bullies off (on jet setting, which they don't like) to teach them. Maybe the hosing won't work but we use it to teach our hens not to jump in our raised garden beds and it works...

Thanks! Unfortunately it is winter time. So I can’t spray! I have the one bully separated. When I let them free range today on the little patch of grass available because of the snow, the other bully would go after the recovered chicken but I’d intervene. I do have a camera set up in the run to watch their behavior tomorrow from work and I’m hoping the bully lets the other chicken out and isn’t as aggressive. I do have another feeder coming tomorrow. Idk what else to do. The bully who’s separated is definitely not enjoying the crate lol
