I was thinking of starting a program to reuse egg cartons for the backyard chicken keepers. I would need help from all of you keepers. This would keep cost down for the ones who sell their eggs for profit.
I was going to ask my local feed store if it would be okay for people to drop off their unwanted egg cartons so that their (the feed store) customers could pick them up when they come in to purchase chicken food. This would help the feed store because it would bring in customers that don't have chickens, but may have dogs and cats and other pets, needing to purchase something for them. It would also bring in customers who may buy feed at another store that does not offer the free egg carton program.
What do you think?? Would any of you be willing to get this going in your area?
(maybe its already done)
We could also ask some of the stores (especially the health food stores) if we could put a sign in their egg cooler temporally to get the program going. Everybody loves to be earth friendly!
Maybe if this gets going well enough, some of the big egg companies will print it on their egg cartons.

In some states, it's illegal to reuse egg cartons when selling eggs. :-(

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow We're so happy you've decided to join us:ya

I'm in one of those states that prohibits re-use of egg cartons, that said a friend of mine started a BYOC approach. He sells 12-18 eggs without a carton and he also offers cartons for sale. I'm still uncertain how he get's past the labeling requirements, but it was an interesting approach.:idunno

G’Day from down under MikkiMik :frow Welcome!

Sorry, I live in a small coastal village in Australia so not really able to help.

However, I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

In some areas I believe you have to be licensed and inspected to sell eggs to the public, stores or restaurants. I apologize in advance, if I am mistaken about this. Memory is not as good as it used to be.
