Hi, I have 4 buff orpingtons who are 5 weeks old. Today, I was cleaning out their coop, and found a poop with red blotches on it. It looks almost like the color of a tomato in places. Is this blood? I thought that blood in the stools would look blacker. This is the only poop I found like this.

Here's the poop next to a penny for scale

Should I be worried?
Thank you

I saw some poo like that in my coop and after getting over cocci that swept through my flock prior, I was worried. That link flockwatcher posted is very informative and I've used it a few times. :) it looks like shed intestinal lining to me but you'd want to check just to make sure.

I had a rooster that was had poop like that, so I wormed him and now his poop looks normal *100%* of the time. What the poo page does not say is that the majority of poop should be well formed with a white cap. In the case of my rooster, he was pooping about four of those a day, which is definitely *not* normal!

If it's just one, I wouldn't be too worried, but you might want to get some Corid just in case you start to see more. In my experiences lately, poop like that in chicks is a sign that they have coccidiosis and in older birds, worms.
