OK so I've recently bought 2 red burbon turkeys a Tom an hen. Both not a year old till spring this year and my hen layer her first egg today. I'm new to the turkey world so I'm not to sure what to expect. Will it be firtil? Is it possible for her to lay now? I put a picture of the egg on here hopefully you can see it an make sure it is a turkey egg but I appreciat any help! Thanks

It is my experience that even with confirmed breeding acts that the first egg laid is usually not fertile. After the first egg, the next eggs are usually fertile even if you don't see the actual mating as long as a fertile tom is around. There have been reports of others getting turkey eggs already this year and at more northern sites than Indiana. Yes it is a turkey egg.

Good luck.
