My chicken's poo has a slight red tint to it. Is it because she's been eating watermelon or....?
She looks perfectly healthy otherwise.
Thanks!! :)

if she was eating watermelon I wouldn't worry too much. when mine eat Mellon they poop out the color of the fruit. just to be safe keep on eye on her and stop the melon for awhile so you can see if the poo returns to normal color. I'm pretty sure it will but to be on the safe side its best to check. best wishes! hope this was helpful.

ChickenClaire,

What ended up happening? Did your chicken recover? I have a case of red, bloody poo from a chicken I believe ate several (4 maybe?) cherry pits and I'm trying to decide whether to treat for cocci with Corid, or not. I don't want to administer Corid to the entire flock as it has side effects that I'd like to avoid (reduced immune system, vitamin A and K depletion).

Could've been what they were eating, could also have been shed intestinal lining.

Here's how to tell the difference between coccidiosis and intestinal lining: the lining looks like rust colored snot. Poke it with a piece of pine shaving bedding. Does it stretch like snot does when you have a cold? If so, and the color is very dull red, it's lining.

If it looks like a human got hurt and bled for a while in one spot, it's coccidiosis. Coccidiosis is BRIGHT red.
