A couple of weeks ago my husband and I decided to add a red golden pheasant to our flock. It wasn't but a week or so after we got him I noticed one side of his face had swollen up(thank goodness we still had him quarantined from the flock). At first I thought it was a nasal infection as his nostrils were running so I began treating him with Vet Rx. However, currently the bulges have become masses around his eyes(a small one just next to his nictating membrane next to the eye and a larger one just behind his jaw). Just tonight I washed out the lump from behind the poor birds nictating membrane and it was yellow and had a consistency of cartilage.
Does anyone have any idea what this could possibly be? Any ideas on treatment? Would anyone think this could be contagious to my other birds?
Attached I have a picture of the pheasant when I first noticed swelling. I also uploaded a picture of the mass. If you can imagine now all the swelling is in the bottom on his yellow cheek and his eye still does not open completely as the larger mass is still in there.
