What configuration of red golden pheasant seems to work best? Pairs, trios, quads, or some other mix? I currently don't have the birds or a pen so everything is flexible.

fully agree.
The more hens the marrier, and the less likely he'll be to over pick a single hen, they are rampant breeders, so more hens takes the presure off just a single girl

this is all new to me, I have one rooster and 2 hens that are about 8 months old, and would like to know if they will breed this year. If they do and I can incubate some eggs can the chicks be put in the same pen as the older ones, or should I make a new pen for them. Is there a mix ratio to hens and roosters, I'm reading that more hens is better, but how many. Thanks

I've runn 6-8 hens per male easily before.
Right now, you may get a few eggs, but at that young of an age, fertility will be an issue, at 2 they are 100%, 50% on yearlings is a good average.
NO, LORD NO, dont put the chicks back in the pen with adult males, you will have a bunch of dead chicks the next time you go out. I have kept multiple males in large pens many times with no problems, but they need to be ruffly the same age, all put in at once, not be breeding season at the time, and most importantly, a big pen.

Grow your chicks out in a brooder and you will have a much better sucess rate...

Yes they will breed this season. The new chicks can be added to your flock if you put all birds into a new pen.If you just throw in the new chicks the older birds will attack them.
Are the 2 hens and a rooster related? If so,you might want to find another male so you will have unrelated adults. The chicks will still be related also.

does it matter if they are related or not. hate to ruin the neighborhood.
When I got these birds they were in a pen with about 50 other birds of about the same size, so I don't know if they are related or not. Thanks for the replys

It's better to have unrelated pairs. It cuts out a lot of defects in your stock. If there was 50 or so birds in a pen there's a chance they are not related but still a chance they are.
