My poor rooster has a red and inflamed side of his neck. I first noticed he lost feathers in the area and then it started to turn a bright red. I originally thought it was issues with molting (It’s his first molt). What can I do to help him out?
Much of the red is hormonal in nature. The feather loss is the result of one or more of his hens 'over grooming' him. Separation from the flock until he regrows the feathers would help. Or determine which hen/hens are responsible and separate them from the flock until he regrows his feathers. Generally it is one of his favorites doing this.
