Hello! So Yesterday, I went to Tractor Supply Co. to adopt some baby chicks, and I did... I already had the necessities at home from my first flock that started as chicks, so I just bought the new chicks, some Chick Starter, and a baby cake... Then suddenly one of the employees told me that I should get Red Lake earth DIATOMACEOUS... And I did. He didn't really explain what it was even for, but just said I should buy it. The one I bought is literally the exact same one in the picture..

What exactly do I use it for? There aren't directions on how to give it to my chicks, but I noticed it said something about "Calcium Bentonite".. Can someone explain to me exactly what this stuff is and what it's for? I read the ingredients, and it said that it's ASH? Do I mix it with their water or would that not be such a great idea with Ash?

Some people put it in feed, hoping it helps with worms (jury still out). You won't have worms until they start foraging at least.
I don't feed it but I do use it on roosts, in nests and bedding to thwart other parasites.

Oooooh... So it's kind of like a pest killer? Sweet! I'm glad I bought, it then.. It'll be great for the spring and summer!
