RED MITES - had to condemn coop... questions, please help!!

Hi Friends : )
I know this is an old thread, but hoping someone will still see this and help out. ?? This is my second year with chickens, but my first experience with mites. Best I can tell, we have many, but I'm not sure it's an "infestation" yet at this point... So I've been reading on here, and now I am armed with Sevin5 dust, permetherin spray, and diatomaceous earth for their dust-bathing holes... I love BYC, you guys are so helpful.

So my question is, what about the run? Do I have to spray/dust it too? Also, as I understand, the Sevin dust is no good if it gets wet (right??), and we are having a VERY wet summer. Dusting their run seems pointless. Also, I've read here that I need to get all the bedding out of the coop, but what do I do with it? Where can I "toss it" that they won't migrate back to the coop? I don't have anywhere to burn it, as others have suggested. Any other suggestions? OK, last question: what do I do to protect myself from getting the little crawlies all over ME while I'm trying to do this? When I checked the girls to see if they had mites on their vents, I had 5-6 mites on my hands and arms after just a few minutes of checking them out. I'm worried about bringing them into my own house. Help?!! Thanks everyone for your advice!! -

I was really hoping someone would answer your question about the red mites getting on you. I have the same question as I just learned we have them, too. I'm in northeast Georgia and I feel sure I can count the number of days we've had no rain since the beginning of spring, on one hand. Also, our girls have never let us hold them...they run...so this is going to be super fun, I can tell. And I'm itching all over just thinking about it.
