Found these little guys on the wall of my concrete floor, wooden 100 yr old coop. We have a spot where water got in and soaked the pine shavings next to the nesting boxes. I saw two of these guys on an egg in the straw lined box. Removed the wet shavings...working on cleaning out the whole 15x20 building today but have logistical questions. When applying they 5% seven powder after washing down all wood surfaces, how do I keep the birds from pecking at it? I can't keep them outside all night! I am giving them a kiddie pool with sand mixed with some DE to dust themselves instead of the shavings in that corner of the building. I see absolutely no evidence of mites on my girls so I am trying to act swiftly and save them the trouble. Any advice is appreciated.
The photo is of my index finger nail and the little icky mite. (With a cat hair thrown in for measure)

Way back when - we used to paint all cracks, crevices, joints with a creosote/old crankcase oil mixture. It provided long term mite control. If you use bedding, I would just place it over the Sevin treated areas. Great photographs!
