Hi All, I noticed yesterday that my black Orpington, Daisy was sitting down more than normal and was pecking at herself so I had a look at her and she has some red mites in her fluffy feathers below her vent.
I haven’t had any red mites in the coop in over 3 years but I gave it a complete deep clean jyst to be safe.
I put some DE powder at the base of her feathers where the mites are and treated her (and my other 3 girls) with some ivomectin.
I have some permethrin but aren’t sure of dosage rates and if it’s safe to spray directly on to her.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated, Yhanks!

What permethrin product do you have? 0.5% is the usual strength used on poultry. You can get the garden dust or even a concentrate that can be mixed with water.

It’s a concentrate. Says it contains 250g per litre of concentrate

Mites hatch about every 5-7 days, so the permethrin product may need to be used every 7 days, once or twice, along with a complete coop cleanout to remove bedding. Treat roosts, nests, and the coop before adding new bedding. Avoid straw which can harbor mites.

Thanks. Yes, I am aware of that. I had a major infestation of red mites a couple of years ago. The thing that is confusing me is that there isn’t even 1 mite in the entire coop! I have been talking to the place where I get all my coop cleaning supplies and they think they might be lice. I have treated them all again with ivomectin
