Have now 14 Red Rangers. Says they reach 6.7 pounds in 80 days. Don't know how much feed that equates to. I can't imagine they get to that weight in that time free ranging. We feed ours grower/finisher once a day and they free range the rest of the time. They are around 5 months old and don't even weigh 2 lbs. Tried to butcher 2 and they were scrawny as hell. Not even worth the trouble to dress them out. Any guesses?

They're very underfed!!! Mine get free choice Flock Raiser, although any good chick feed will work, but free choice! It takes almost three pounds of feed (maybe slightly less) per pound of weight gain. That's not whatever they can glean outside! My Freedon Rangers from Pennsylvania this spring were very nice, and went to the freezer at 9 and 11 weeks of age, dressing out at 4.5 to 5.5 lbs each. They ate 2.9 lbs of feed per pound of live weight, and free ranged too. Mary

I would free choice their feed. The free range is "in addition" to their feed, not a substitute for their feed. I raised Pioneers a few years ago. They put on good size, and I actually held one back as a layer. She became my earliest and most prolific layer of that season's pullets. Her genes are still present in my flock.
