Hello all this is a hen of mine that I had thought was a red sex link (sone people on here said so when she was little) but sone people also say she’s an ISA brown, I know red sex links live shorter lives and am just curious, what do y’all think? Her name is Marmalade and she is just a year old, and a great layer, but seems to be on and off laying right now (the weather is crazy going from fourty degrees, to eighty, and back to fourty.

Red sex link and ISA Brown are the same thing. ISA Brown is just a specific proprietary breed mix (they don’t say exactly what) but they are still a form of red sex link.
Oh alright, I’ve heard so many different things from so many different people that I was confused. Thank you! Do you know the average lifespan for them? I’ve heard 3-4 max unlike other breeds but I’m not so sure what to believe anymore.

No problem! It does get confusing because there’s soooooo many names for red sex links but yeah. And I’m not sure on the lifespan part, unfortunately. But I have heard the same that it’s shorter and they’re prone to reproductive problems. Not a guarantee though.

Ok thanks so much! Yes because of those issues I had never planned on getting any, but she was a mislabeled girl in a buff orpington bin they gave me, but I don’t mind to much at all. I have like at least ten different breeds already 🤷‍♀️🤣

Generally, red sex links have more health issues due to their high production. Most may die before 4 year old, but there are some of them that can live a normal lifespan like other chickens. It depends on the individual bird.
