He's being picked.I noticed lack of feathers on the roosters neck and once I was able to catch him found this also. I don’t see mites & he has been treated for them just Incase. What could it be & how to treat it.
It looks like he is getting pecked quite aggressively. Some of the skin around is going through necrosis. Watch for a possible fly strike, it can happen very fast! The skin is awfully red and doesn't look like it's caused by blood, but it might be. It actually looks similar to the kind of skin on waddles. Have you noticed him to have red there all his life? If it's new, treat like a wound as well. Figure out who is attacking him first and separate the attacker(s) from the flock. If you want to be cautious, keep him inside and let the wound heal over and reintegrate him by showing a lot of favoritism towards him. This includes solely giving him more free-ranging time, holding him a lot, and treats hand-fed only to him.I noticed lack of feathers on the roosters neck and once I was able to catch him found this also.
