We have a number of hens that lost a lot of feathers over the winter.
Roosters, which have been removed attacked vents and we thought we were going to lose a lot of them. (Lost none.) With the attack they lost a lot of feathers.
They were also bored from being cooped up all winter despite many "entertainment" pieces added to the coop. (Suet cakes with meal worms hung all over, fresh greens in hanging suet cages, litter box filled with sand etc...) More feathers gone.
Now that they are outside all the time that featherless skin is VERY red. They all appear very happy. Eating great, laying extremely well and feathers are growing back. BUT, I would think the red skin would hurt. Any suggestions? Any lotions or cream helpful?
Thanks so much!
