Hi, I am brand new to Backyard Chickens and excited to become part of this online community! My first question is concerning one of my week-old ducklings. He has a red spot with white in it right above his tail. He picks at it sometimes when rearranging his feathers. I don't think it's causing him any pain but I would just like to know what it is in case it's an infection, feather cyst etc. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Wow they sure are super cute :love I'm afraid I'm not a duck person but as you say it could be some kind of cyst. Please do post in the duck section for help with this from the duck keepers. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/42/ducks

Wishing you the very best of luck with your ducklings in the future.

Enjoy BYC :frow

Not an expert by any means, but I've never seen anything like that on my ducklings... I don't believe that is the oil gland, it looks like the spot is not centered... definitely post on the duck thread, that looks irritated...

Good morning, welcome to BYC!

Cute ducklings you have there, thanks for sharing a picture. I hope you find out what the red spot is all about.

It's nice to have you here!

Thanks for the help! I'll post on the duck thread now. Sorry I'm still figuring this out @Yorkshire coop @drumstick diva@RavynFallen @NorthFLChick

No need to apologise at all, as NorthFLChick said stumbling around is how we all learn. I certainly did too when I first joined up.

I see you posted in the duck section :highfive:

Good luck!!
