Red Tailed Hawk

I'm no hawk expert but every red-tailed hawk I've ever seen is rather big. Big enough to say whoa...but maybe you have a juvenile.
Red shouldered hawks are smaller and they never bothered my chickens in 13 yrs of living right next to the woods. And I don't think hawks have a preference for color.

Well, you're lucky. A red shouldered hawk just tried to take off with one of my chickens.

As for the color? I never thought so. But I'm starting to doubt it.
I have an orange colored chicken and used to have lots of red chickens. In over 10 years, none of them were ever bothered.
I also used to have dozens of Guineas. Well, not only did I have a human predator,; I also had big owls that would pick off my Guineas one by one. (Starting with the lavender/blue Guineas, followed by the buffs. The pearl Guineas were the ones that survived the longest.
I now noticed that my last orange chicken can run around the property at leisure without ever being bothered by hawks. They can circle right over her and then fly off.
The 2 hawks that are on the property next door are ONLY interested in my Sapphire gems. So blue/lavender again.
So now I'm really starting to doubt that hawks and other flying predators do not have a preference for certain colors.
