There are some Silkies up on an auction site that are White/Red Pyle. What is that? I know you Silkie experts should have an answer.

I'm just wondering what you would have to breed to in order to get that coloring in Silkies, and if it could be used to improve other colors?

Aren't there any genetic experts that can help me out here?

Hi Pennie!

It is a base color that has ginger red on the wings and often crown. Apparently if you breed a pyle to a buff, you are suppossed to get a ginger red silkie.
Here are my pyle silkies:

A pyle hen should not have red on its wings; only on its breast.

Red pyle is one dose of dominant white, which replaces all black feathering with white. It is built on an e+ (wildtype) base, and may or may not have mahogany.

Red Pyle as in the Old English Game Bantam is a Black Breasted Red (gold-s) with Dominant White (I) added.

Ginger Red would be Black Breasted Red (gold-s) with Dark Brown (Db) added.

On a side note you can also use a Blue Breasted Red to create a Red Pyle by adding Dominant White.
