i have 4 brabanter chicks. just 3 weeks now. got from Ideal. supposed to be pullets and i have no reason to doubt at this point but i had purchased brabanter hatching eggs at one point and i remember her saying something about their tails that always seemed to point towards male. Does anyone have any knowledge of that rumor? most of that batch were boys and two had been mixes so i did not keep any of them. i have ONE 7 yr old hen now..my last of the original flock. i just couldn't bear to be without one or two of those. such fun quirky birds...so curious and friendly and these babies are so mellow and sweet....

this is one shot of 3 of them...the tails. the two together have these long tails. they other on facing away has a shorter tail. they are 3 weeks.

what about these bantam cochins....this black one i pretty much knew boy at 2 weeks. displayed very male traits i had never seen that young. so he is the ONLY one that has back end shaped like this and red showing on wattle and comb.

this partridge one same age...very bushy tail. i see pink in face..wattle etc but she feathered out quickly and esp her tail. i think girl but the pink gives me pause. the other 3 bantam cochins i have are 4 weeks and too soon to see red but the tails are the same as the partridge. so either i have 4 boys and 1 girls on 1 boy and 4 girls...but then some might have just feathered out quicker...

My friend and I had split the brabanters and she got one boy so it might’ve been the one with the short tail. Because all the others had longer tails. The black Cochin that I was positive was a boy from day one is a girl and i named her magic. Just the sweetest bird. 2 Younger birds were outside late as I was locking up and little magic ran out there and round them up and brought them in. It was the cutest thing I’ve never seen that before
