Are you thinking of getting into chickens? We have a lovely couple (barred rock) rooster and hen. He does what he’s supposed to do - protecting the hen. She does what she’s supposed to do - laying eggs. They are both very healthy and full of personality- easy going.
She is not broody, which means she doesn’t sit on her eggs, but she would be a good leader for baby chicks. If you got this somewhat pampered, docile couple, got used to them, got them set up and then you get chicks in the spring, then you would start your flock. This couple would perfect for that!
This couple are good starter chickens for kids as well!
They are loaners, I do not know if they would be compatible with an existing flock. She was previously bullied by Brahmas, probably because of her size.
