Hi folks! We lost one of two remaining members of our flock to a predator a couple of days ago and so we are down to one: a 5-6 year old Blue Cochin.

We’d like to re-home her with another flock so she can have social interaction--she needs friends! At her age, she doesn’t lay much—maybe for 6-8 weeks a year in early fall—but is healthy. Her breed is calm and friendly and she’s good with other hens and kids.

If your flock wouldn’t mind having a new mild-mannered elder, let me know and we can work out the details.

Keith

Edit: She's pictured here (next to her recently fallen bestie)

Beautiful girls, human included.

Have you considered getting some chicks to see if she would accept and raise them as her own? Or fertile eggs for her to hatch out?

If we were closer, I'd take her and try to integrate her.

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply!! We’re going the route of retiring from backyard chickens—she’s the last of the flock that sort of “came with our house” a few year ago and it’s been fun but the “prey as pets” part of it is a bit tough for us. My hope, though, is thay she still has value raising chicks for someone, I know her breed is great for that. Fingers crossed!
