So Ive got issue. Im trying to reintegrate my Mumma hen and chicks. Ive let them in a shared space an hour at a time to start. however one of last years pullets is constantly attacking Mumma hen. She is being submissive but it doesn't seem to matter, when she attacks A few of my other hens have during the attack acted aggressively towards the chicks and im just terrified something bad might happen, chasing and pecking at them. I have moved the bully into a timeout cage away from everyone for now. Seems to have settled things and mumma hen seems more settled around the rest of the flock. My chicks are 4 weeks old now.

Am i doing the right thing by letting them out for an hour at a time and removing the bully?

Any advise is hugely apreachaited and welcomed!

Is there a reason you removed momma and the eggs/chicks from the flock originally?

You need to do the see but no touch integration where momma and chicks are within the flock all day and night but in their own space that the flock can’t get to them.

Hey! Thanks for the reply!

Momma and chicks have been in their own run and coop in a shared space with the main run and coop so chicks and hens have been exposed for the whole month. All had been going well in the hour or so a day i had been letting them all in the joint space.

Then the bully started attacking a few days ago and things got a bit hariy.

Since i removed her everything has been fine. This is my first time with mumma hen and chicks and Ive only had chickens about a year it amazes me what a difference a single chicken can have to the flock. I am feeling mroe conifdent things are going well again today, i have let them all stay in the shared space all day and everyone is fine. The odd chasing of the chicks but not in a hugely agressive way. How long till i should put the bully back in the flock?
