Like so many I got 7 chicks, 5 different breeds this spring from a hatchery. Love them all and they grew so well and healthy. One of the Araucanas turned out to be a rooster, and a very NICE one I might add

. Sadly, I do live in an area that is not zoned for roosters, so I needed to relocate him to a farm 3 weeks ago, when he was 11 weeks old. Apparently the current flock has roosters and wasn’t very open to inviting a new member in. In the meantime they moved him to a temporary pen that had Cornish hens. The owners of this farm have asked me to relocate him again. So this Sunday I will be picking him up and bringing him back to my home and his former coop. I plan to talk to the neighbors to update them that I will be working diligently to find him a good home and having him sleep in my garage which muffles his ‘morning song’.
What I am now wondering is do you know what I can expect or might experience when I bring back Morley to the flock of hens that he grew up with? Do I need to be careful when I bring him back? I know the girls were rattled when he left and seemed that they needed to readjust to not having ‘the big man on campus’ in the hen house. Anything I can do to make this easier on them all or do you think it all might go pretty smooth and not to worry?

HI,

If this is your only roo there should be no problem. The girls like boys, and he's the same size or bigger so they won't pick on him.

Shame about the zoning.
