releasing mourning dove

hey all as the title states i'm gonna be releasing the mourning dove i've been taking care of his flight feathers have for the most part grown in but he flew across my room like a bullet so im guessing hes ready to go i'm gonna miss him but he belongs in the wild i hope hell be ok ill probably put some seeds on the front porch and let him out on the porch before i go to school tomorrow any advise on his release would be appreciated thanks everyone

If your dove is anything like my homing pigeons (they are a close relative) he may hang around continually.

well him and his mate were nesting on the front porch so i was hoping hed be happy in the familliar territory but i think in his absence a new male is living in our area so hopefully no territorial problems

well the mourning dove gave me a heart attack yesterday when my the kid next door showed me a pile of feathers and a bird skull in his front porch i raced to my front door looking for the dove and he shot up and flew across the street and i was able to breath a sigh of relief

oh and he stays around just like you said
