Relocating -- Need advice for what to do with my flock - Peeps in the VA, SC or NC?

Hey Guys,

I want to cry at the moment because I am in a pretty crappy situation and have to relocate myself, my flock, and my horse somewhere within 45 days. My flock consists of 2 proud bantam cochin/silkie parents, their 4 almost 6 month old babies (3 laying hens and one rooster) and my two indian runner ducks (the little male has a crooked foot and the little female turned into a male and no longer lays eggs).

I am currently living in Tryon, NC and I was thinking of trying to look for a job in the Leesburg, VA, Charlotte, NC or Charleston, SC areas and I imagine it is going to be difficult for me to find somewhere that I can rent that would allow me to bring my birds with me is the problem. Does anybody know of any places for rent that would allow chickens and ducks in those areas? Or at least point me in the direction to where the best places to look would be?

I really don't want to give them up, because I love them so much, and I would prefer to like temporarily check them into a chicken hotel or something if they existed. However if I have to give them up, id like some advice as to how best to go about it, to ensure their well being, and/or advice as to how I might be able to keep them?

Can't help you, as I'm not in any of those areas. But most places have more country type settings outside the city/town. If your coop is movable, I would advise you to leave your chickens/ducks with family or reliable friends until you find a job and a place, and then bring them a month or so later. I live in the country, and see quite a few small homes/trailers for rent - most places are about 30 minutes outside of town, but doable. You can board your horse if needed - it will be tougher to find a place for a horse.

Good luck! Moving is a tough situation when you have livestock type animals...
