Remind me why I buy nesting boxes?

Since my hens apparently have forgotten how to use them! I've bought them NICE, CLEAN, SPACOIUS hay filled nesting boxes and I get this:

Free style laying.


This Faverolle is suicidal! That dark blob is a very angry brooding Silkie named Sponge. Sponge will actually jump off the nest and allow another bird to lay her egg there before climbing back on. If any do hatch, I wonder how many will be her's?


The tail belongs to my OEGB, Amoeba, who decided she is going to brood her eggs in the bottom of a rarely used trashcan.
