Well it started last weekend when I was cleaning out my garage and thought this would make a great coop for my chicks and the ones I have incubating providing they hatch.
The only problem was, my wife does not want me to have anymore chickens or coops
So I chose the
Its easer to ask for forgiveness instead of asking permission 1st
To get a jump on the coop I took a vacation Friday so I would have 4 days if needed to finish
The garage is 24x16 so I split it down the middle and to give me a 24x8 space to work with. At 1st I was going to make 3 8x8 coops and 2 8x8 runs outside but as I got started I decided on a coop size of 11x8, a brooding and supply room size of 13x8 and the 2 outside runs of 8x8, I ran out of lumber so I only finished the one outside run that is 8x8 and will finish the other one later on when needed.
The coop has 5 nesting boxes and 4-6' roosting poles. I also installed a nice big ceiling mounted fan to circulate the air inside during the summer and a shop lite for lighting.
Well it was 3 fairly long days but most of the work is complete and the chicks are in their home
and was a great sight when I moved them from the brooder to the coop. My little buddy's went crazy running around playing. The next thing will be when they figure out that there is a 8x8 closed in run for them to explore
O-I almost forgot to mention the expression my my loving wifes face when she got up Friday and came out and seen the Big pile of lumber laying in the yard lol, lol
Let me say she wasn't impressed.
She said; What in the world are you doing!!!!!!!!!
I said; Just building a little something for the chicks lol, lol you know I can't put them in with the Big chicken, they would get hurt
She said; And how big is this thing your building!!!????
I said; Well and paused with a grin
She said; Thats what I thought!!!!!!!
I said; But Honey
She said; Randy I thought you said you wern't building anymore coops or getting anymore chickens!!!!!! then she shot me one of those looks and stormed off into the house and wouldn't talk to me for most of the day Friday.
Here are some pics of the work so far
