We are going out of town for a long weekend and we wanted to remove our week old chicks to a temporary brooder. Purpose is to have relatives feed and water daily.

We'd put them back in pen with mother when we get home. Will the mom hen take them back?

Our feeder and waterer for the big girls can be filled up and left for 3 or 4 days. The little waterer and little feeder get emptied every day and need constantly refilled. And the big girls also help themselves to the baby food, causing it to empty sooner.

I don't want to have to ask someone to come over every day to maintain the chicks. One visit over the course of 4 days is a more reasonable ask for the big girls.

So the hen and her chicks aren't separated?

You have to do what you have to do. Be prepared to brood the chicks if the mom rejects them when you return.
No our hen and her chicks aren't separated, is that something that should be done? All the other hens and rooster seem to be treating chicks ok...

Correct, we were planning to take brooder and chicks to family member for easier care. Also our rooster is a bit of a rascal, so asking someone to enter the coop every day is a big favor....
