Anyone heard of using the repashy calcium plus for chickens? The vet told me to get it even though it's for lizards. I know he's an avain/exotic vet and knows what he's doing but has anyone else done this?

He said that oyster shell is actually not an ideal source of calcium for them because it can be difficult for their body to process.
Interesting.
Did he give you a recommended dosing for the stuff you mention in post one?
Daily?
Amounts?

I looked it up. It's meant for the captive reptiles and amphibians who aren't getting enough minerals and vitamins in their 'pet shop based' diets. Calcium deficiency is very common in pet reptiles because of their diets.
Chickens fed a balanced ration do fine; laying hens need the extra oyster shell, which is absorbed slower, so that when they are making the egg shell, in early morning, it's available.
Laying hens produce way more eggs each year than what's 'natural'; rather than thirty eggs, closer to three hundred! That's why the high levels of calcium in layer feeds, and the extra oyster shell.
