hello everyone, This is only my second posting after this morning newbie introduction. I was hoping to post some pics of our new tractor w/three 10wk old chicks (BR,Ameraucana, SLW). Unfortunately when I got home from work found out that our dog had killed our SLW, Edith. It was a tragic mistake how she died, however I want to move forward and possibly get another chick about the same age. The tractor is small (8Lx3.5Wx4H). We let them out a few hours in the afternoon (from now on with the dog inside). I've read most of the posts here but haven't seen a similar situation with flock/coop size I have. I planned to get a chick the same age or older, keep it in separate pen for a few weeks and intergrate slowly. However, with such a small flock, I'm wondering if it's worth the trouble if this will be too difficult to accomplish. Thanks for any advice.

I had a similar situation 2 weeks ago and added a 2 weeks old chick in with one 4 week old and small 7 weeks old chick. No problem. They were the only 3 not ready to be in the big house and 1 chick by herself never works. If you can't find chicks in the 6-12 week old range and have to go 1-2 weeks, get 2 but other wise, I wouldn't worry about it. I wouldn't mix 1 -2 weeks old in with 10 weeks olds.
