I’ve had my quail (27 birds) for a year now and I kept them lying all winter long with artificial light I’ve decided that I want to provide my family with meat along with those wonderful eggs (I’ve processed quail already but just a few at a time). I want to replace my old flock with a new one and also freeze birds to last until next spring. I’ve hatched 47 birds right now and will need to hatch probably another 40 for eggs and meat. My question is How do you rotate your flock? Do you save any from the old flock (I was thinking about saving a few) ? When do you process the old flock ( how old are the baby birds so you have a constant egg supply)? Also I did order a few eggs to have new genes included into the new flock (out of 47 birds 11 are from the new source). I’m still new at this and I appreciate any advice, also I hope all this makes sense. Thanks in advance
