I was wondering what had happened. I put the hen house( coop ) in a really shady area of the yard and almost immediately noticed fewer eggs everyday. I have four hens and a roo. I get three to four eggs daily. All of a sudden I was getting two and then one egg a day. I decided to place the coop back where it originally was and today I got three eggs. I know that sunlight ( at least 12 to 14 hours) is essential but I figured since they were outside it didn't matter if the area was shadier than the last it would have an impact. Has anyone ever had this happen to them and am I right about my analysis ?

Thanks.

I would guess the problem was not the shade but the change. Chickens react strongly to change, but they adjust (in a week or two?) If they need the shade in summer, as they do in most areas, I'd put it back and give them time. There should be plenty of light in the shade for eggs.
