reptile heating mat for a diy incubator?

hi! i was thinking about doing a diy incubator sometime and was wondering if i could use a reptile heating mat for the heat source.
anyone know if this is safe?

It may be safe. Natural incubation happens when egg contacts the breast of a mother bird. You'll need a guaranteed accurate thermometer to begin with.
Does the mat have a thermostat with good temperature control?

What kind? Both can be notoriously inaccurate or slow responding.
