I really wanted to keep a small flock of chickens - but did not have the funds or the carpetry skills to build a separate chicken coop - I decided to use the corner of our Detatched Garage/barn/storage building. I am really into trying to "re-use" and "re-purpose" items so they can be useful. in this case the previous owners had a doggie door in this corner that led to a nice 12X20 chain link fenced dog yard - that is now my chicken yard. and this space was just collecting "junk" lol

This is a 6' by 8' area - I used wire exercise pens as the inside barrier walls with chicken netting from the top edge of the exercise pens to the rafters. I also had tons of 5 gallon flat back water buckets from having horses and decided to use them for my nesting boxes - and the perch is broken closet rods and left overs found in the wood pile

I do plan on insulating the outside walls and covering with plywood
4' high this fall

This is the outside pen with the doggy door to the inside on the right

I really enjoy seeing all the stunning wonderful bought and hand built coops, wish we could be so blessed with something that looks so lovely lol - but thought I would share that you can sometimes adapt what you have to suit raising chickens really well.

Oh and I now have a netting across the entire outside yard to help deter predators.

We have a pen that is a large covered dog pen with two dog houses and a large truck cap for nesting boxes/more shelter. Another pen is a trampoline frame enclosed & covered with two dog houses for nesting boxes. They're crude, but it's all we can afford & it works for us. We recently just built a coop & run, split down the middle inside & out, but we used the old wood from my father's coop that he took down a year or so ago. Only thing we had to purchase was the wire, latches & hinges.
