Good luck with your lil Barred Rock...would love to know if yours is a pullet or roo! I have one that has that large spot on its head...other two have a much smaller spot.

I vote pullet. She looks like my BR girls at that age, and I think I remember reading somewhere that the boys are not quite so dark? Anyway yay you for being a rescuer!

It looks like I may now also be rescuing 3 full size chickens- two hens and a rooster. There are some people getting evicted on my road that have far too many animals. I talked to the landlord about possibly taking the chickens if they are abandoned. They might have some health issues from the look of things, but I'll post my concerns about that in the appropriate category. Thanks again for all the input. I'm excited about suddenly being a chicken person (we had always planned to have ducks). Oh and I know y'all will tell me to quarantine, but I believe my chick came from the same place as the others...would a week or two apart warrant a quarantine if I get the other 3 chickens?
