Rescue Chickens

Hello everyone!
We just finished refirbishing one of our outbuildings into another coop and I'd like to adopt/rescue chickens instead of buying from hatcheries.
I did a search and came up with a few things but they are far from VA. (CA, MI, NY)
Does anyone know of any rescues in my area?

Machipongo, VA has a rescue...you can contact Karen Davis and let her know you are looking for some rescues and you will no doubt have rescue chickens in no time!

remember to keep the separate, many a resued bird has brought disease or a parasite problem into a healthy flock.

I would also worm them right away , unless the agency does it.

pipermark, good advice! The new coop is about 100ft away. Is that far enough?

You've got a good heart, meriruka...and fortunate to have the extra space for the rescued chickens. Did you see the rooster up for adoption in an NC shelter in another thread?

Check petfinder.com. They list lots of rescues and you can probably find some options there.
