So today I received a telephone call from a friend of a friend, asking if I would be willing to take in 3 homeless chicks.

The first 2 are all white and are suspected roos, but I have no idea how old they are or what breed they are. They seem a little more mature than my 5 week olds, so maybe 6-8 weeks? They seem very sweet and rode home with the baby chick without any problems at all. As a matter of fact they nestled her to keep her warm. I already love them.

Do you think they need a heat lamp since they appear almost fully feathered? They seem content without one, but I want to do the best thing for them. They are in the house.

This baby chick is suspected to be 2 days old, hatched as a school project then abandoned.

How could anyone in their right mind abandon such a precious baby!?

I have no idea what she is, but she is adorable and just as sweet as can be. She seems to stumble a bit when she walks and falls asleep while standing, so I hope she is just young and not sickly. I have been keeping an eye on her to ensure that she knows what the food and water is. She is currently residing with my 2 week old silkies and a 2 week old easter egger, and so far they are getting along pretty well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Those big guys look like CornishX meat birds. They have special feeding requirements...are you familiar with them at all?

I'm not sure about the baby...she looks kinda like my Gold Sexlink did as a baby, but that's purely a guess. She's adorable!

I noticed one of the boys has a bit of brown on his shoulder. Those 2 are sex link boys. def not meat birds. the little one is probably a sex link pullet. I'm just guessing on the little one though.

Your 2 white chicks are both roosters, and they look like cornish X White Rock.

Your baby looks just like my baby. She looks like a EE! ADORABLE! You should name it Chickadee because they one I have looks just like her and s/he name is Chickadee.

The big boys, they dont look like cornishes they would be wider. They could possibly be leghorns if they were cornishes they would be big enough to cull in about two weeks and that they arent!

The chick looks ADORABLE.

Lindsay could be right about them being Sexlink roos...I was thinking they looked like CornishX because of their sparse feathering...they grow faster than their feathers can cover them...LOL.

Thanks for all the quick replies.

I really didn't want the roosters, but I wasn't about to let them be homeless either. The woman who gave them to me said that she would have to let them "loose" to run away if I couldn't take them because she couldn't keep them any longer, so of course I HAD to rescue them. They are really sweet though, so as long as they are gentle they can stay with me as long as they like.

My only concern is that if they are Cornish X I will have to find them a new home because I can't keep them with my other chickens. Hopefully that isn't the case though.

The little one is a total mystery, but whatever she (or he) is, she is stunning and absolutely the sweetest little baby ever! She actually stood at my hand, laid her head down in my palm, and fell asleep.

I would love for her to be an Easter Egger because I already have two of them and am looking forward to those beautiful eggs. Whatever the breed, I am in Love!
