I am bring home my first chickens tomoro. They are rescue hens. I have been told I have to lock them in the coup for several days, is this true . Any other advice is welcome

Yes, it's true. They have to sleep somewhere for a few nights before they know that's where they're supposed to go at night. If you didn't you wouldn't know where they would decide to sleep at night. It could be a tree, a pickup truck or whatever.
Were they cage layers? If so, it may take them a while to roost.
They were likely on layer feed so don't start giving treats too quickly.
If they are laying continue layer feed but if not switch them to a starter/grower feed. Let us know how their feather condition is.

x2 on ChickenCanoe's advice. Keeping them "cooped up" for a couple days teaches them where home is.

Good luck with your rescues!

Hi and welcome to BYC - I wish you the best of luck with your rescues and i am sure they'd thank you if they could

It takes them awhile to adjust, never haven seen grass, or felt wind, heard outdoor noises. Once they figure out they are safe, their personalities tend to blossom. How wonderful that you took them in. Thank you.
