Hey guys! I went into our local feed store (first wrong move) and they had some baby chicks. Well when the lady said that they had some SLW I knew I had to have a couple of them (chicken math of course, because I already have 10 week olds and a broody on another dozen). Well they had just arrived in and they hadn't even opened them up yet. So when she opened them up I immediately went for the little chick that was on the bottom of a pile of chicks. I'm such a softie that I just never put her back down. I thought at first that maybe her back was broke from being trampled on. The lady told me that if I wanted her that she would give her to me. I told her that I would atleast if she doesn't make it she will be loved. Anyhow, I got her home and gave her a little bit of sugar water. I'm thinking that maybe she just has spradle leg. I hope that's all it is. I took a few pictures. Do you all think that's what is wrong with her? She doesn't even attempt to walk, she just lays there (ok, by there I mean on my chest as I sit here and type this). She seems to have perked up so but she just can't seem to sit up straight. Any ideas? I hope she makes it!

I think she just looks weak, I would try to get as much food and water in her as she will take.Maybe some of the babies vitamins.

Yeah, she hasn't been near anyone else. LOL, she has been just sitting on my chest for the past hour. Sometimes she gets wiggly so I just cup my hands around her and she settles right down. She is a sweet little thing. I hope she makes it, I've got so attached already

She really does look like a sweetheart!

I do hope she is a little trooper and pulls through this!

have you tried to see if her leg was broken? does she stretch it out at all?

I don't think it is broken. She really doesn't stretch them out, she just keeps the one up underneath herself and the other seems like she can't seem to get it up under herself.

And yes, she does seem quite weak. She does seem to be perking up a bit, but still really sleepy.

You could do a search on here for spraddle leg. I don't know anything about it but was thinking that I read it needed to be dealt with asap to correct it??
